Antinomies of Place.
Antinomies of Place is my BA thesis (a major context research project). It is an investigation into the seeming contradictions of logic and feeling in cartography: how the ideas of accuracy and imagination, objectivity and subjectivity relate to and appear in maps and how they co-exist or conflict with each other.
The book is made into a sort of atlas where each chapter begins with a ‘map’. The images of them are created using suminagashi technique – Japanese paper marbling – and are reminiscent of topographic maps. The cover is a fold-out, mapping the keywords-ideas occurring in my thesis.
